Our April reading was filled with Easter stories. A favorite was a little board book version of The Velveteen Rabbit. It was just the right size to keep their attention and yet tell the sweet story of the bunny who wanted to become real...and since he was loved so much he got his wish.
We also enjoyed Peter Rabbit's Easter Egg Hunt, a beautiful pop up book that had us counting and finding Easter eggs.
The Secret River by
Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.
A story of magical realism from a young girl's view. She is trying to turn hard times in to good times for her family and her community. She sets out to find a secret river that will provide enough fish for everyone, her adventure and her journey captivated our attention.
Goal! by
Mina Javaherbin.
Tovrea's growing interest in soccer prompted my search for a good soccer story. Goal is a picture book about some smart boys in South Africa that have a love for the game. When encountered by neighborhood bullies they act quick to outsmart them and keep on playing for another goal!
Lastly, this next book was brought to us by the Easter Bunny...he must have wanted us to remember our sweet toys that appear in our baskets...
Red Ted and the Lost Things, by Michael Rosen.
A sweet lost and found story told from the perspective of the red teddy bear and his new friend a crocodile. The toys want to find Red Ted's owner after being accidentally left behind on a train. The find their way through creative travels and the help of cat who can sniff out the smell of cheese that Red Ted describes as his owner's home. Cute and humorous.
What wonderful feeling you must be experiencing being able to get immersed in these childhood sweet stories Rach.
