Raising chickens is not the only project we have going...we also have learned about "raising" ladybugs and butterflies. This spring Nonna gave us kits that provide a perfect habitat for ladybugs from larvae to pupa to adult bugs. Did you know that young adult ladybugs are actually yellow at first before they turn red? The butterfly kit was a mesh net cage that held the caterpillars in their cocoon and provided a place for the butterflies to hatch and learn to learn to fly before being released.
