Our favorite books of the month. We read the Napping House over and over again. It is a true favorite of all three kids, since the story is about a grandmother that ends up with a child, a dog, a cat, and mouse piling on top of her throughout the night I often "tell" the story using different voices of each character. Making up reasons why each of them ends up on the bed. The kids yell out each time "read it again, now in the cat's voice...now in the dog's voice...!"
We also have enjoyed, 10 in The Bed. The little boy in the book looks just like Quiny so he really enjoys watching himself count down from 10 to 1 as each animal rolls out of bed (actually the boy throws them out of bed just like Quiny would). The book follows a cute counting song that we know called "Roll Over", often sang proudly by CoCo.
We have continued Tovrea's interest in poetry with more poetry books: Dark Emperor, Mirror Mirror and The House in the Night. I tried to pick spring time books, City Dog Country Frog is a sweet story, yet Tovrea has decided is too sad for him as it explores the nature of changing friendships and life that carries on from season to season as friends come and go in life.
Last to mention, the book Mirror, is a fascinating picture book of a day in the lives of two families in two completely different cultures. Showing big city life of a family in Australia and rural life of a family in Morocco North Africa. The two families lives are clearly different, but seeing what is similar to all families was the true magic in this book.
I am so happy that you all love reading. One can always entertain oneself be picking up something to read. That is important in life for you will never be bored. Tovrea, I did not like sad animal stories when I was young either.
ReplyDeleteReading is also great as a way to immerse oneself in a time for relaxed solitude while learning something new, or laughing about the comic side of life, or even finding answers to unresolved problems.
ReplyDeleteThis reading time with Mom will have been one of the most treasurable gifts you will have ever received...
